One thing that Jesus Christ is well known for is his ability to bring peace—he wasn’t contentious but sought rather to unify his people. He taught principles such as unity, forgiveness, meekness, humility and understanding, rather than divisiveness. What does the Bible say about unity?
Philippians 2:2 says that God delights in unity among his people who have “the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”
John 17:21 reads, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me,” meaning if we are one in Christ, we will have unity with one another.
1 Corinthians 1:10 talks about having “no divisions.” Paul commands church members to be “perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.”
1 Corinthians 12:12-27 describes how followers of Christ are supposed to work together, like a body. “For as the body is one,” reads verse 12, “and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also, is Christ.”
In Joshua 24, Joshua, the Israelite's leader after Moses, unifies his people with God by saying the famous words found in verse 15: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Acts 2:42-47 speaks about the early members of the church in Jerusalem and describes them as “steadfast” in following the apostles’ teachings. Verse 44 reads, “And all that believed were together, and had all things common.” They shared their food, clothing and other possessions “as every man had need.”
Ecclesiastes 4:12 reads, “And if one prevails against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” In other words, there is strength in numbers.
1 Peter 3:8 teaches, “Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous.” Encouraging mutual love and support of fellow beings is a blessing of striving for unity.
As Psalms 133:1 says, happiness and joy are the fruits of unity, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”
And here is the "Unity" entry (curated) in “The Revealing Word” by Charles Fillmore:
It is the Universal Oneness of God, humans and all creation. The only real unity is in Spirit. It is found nowhere else because personality always strives for its own success and aims for the good of the person, instead of the good of everyone.
Humans make conscious unity with God first at the center of spirituality, this center having its basis of action in the top of the head. The only way to establish unity with the Father-Mind is by prayer. God's name is I AM. Our name is I AM. Speaking this name in the silence, recognizing that it is God's name and our name, we establish conscious unity with God.
